Client emotions
In LPT, we discussed the importance of holographic thinking and understanding that we operate on a logical, emotional, and intuitive level. That being said, some clients are highly emotional, while others may prefer to operate primarily from logic. If your client is a logical person, do not attempt to force them to become emotional.
If you sense that the client is emotional around a situation but is resistant to sharing or engaging in those emotions, it’s appropriate to ask their permission to challenge them. After they’ve given their permission, you might make an observation such as, “I notice that each time I ask you about your feelings, you change the subject. If that resonates with you, what do you think might be going on there?” You should feel empowered to explore resistance to emotion with your client. You should also be aware of your own judgments and filters around how much emotion is appropriate for the situation.
