If my client is a corporate or executive client, should the coaching focus on work related issues only?
What to focus on when coaching
Step One is to specify the parameters of your coaching conversations in your coaching contract and then to check the coaching contract and ensure you’re following the overall guidelines you’ve agreed to. Step Two is to follow the client’s agenda…even if goes “off track.” If the coach finds that the client is going into a non-work related area AND you’ve not committed to only coaching on work topics, check back in on the coaching agreement they created at the beginning of the session to ensure they are on track. Change the coaching agreement if the client’s goals have shifted—this is normal and okay! Know that it’s only by changing a client’s WHO that their outer world changes—at work or otherwise, and that any anabolic changes to a client’s personal life will positively affect their work life as well.
