How can a coach actually coach on niches/topics in which they do not have knowledge or experience?
Knowledge vs coaching
This question belies a fundamental misunderstanding of what coaching is. The disciplines that require first-hand knowledge of the client experience are consulting and mentoring, not coaching. Coaching allows the client to be the expert on the situation and the coach elicits the client’s own inner wisdom through powerful questioning, partnering, and support. Coaches do not consult or mentor clients or tell clients what to do. For this reason, it’s important that coaches are experts on the coaching process, not the client situation.
